Dussault Takes Home U.S. Winter Triathlon Championship Win and World Cup Win All at Once

Honey Stinger athlete, fresh off of a podium at xc ski nationals took home the win at the B.A.S.H. (Battle at Soldier Hollow) winter triathlon.  The event was the nationals for winter triathlon as well as an ITU World Cup event.   It was a double whammy, getting the U.S. Nationals win as well as a World Cup victory.  Dussault finished 4th overall, only getting beaten out by the top three male finishers.

Dussault now awaits the January 29 announcement of the U.S. Nordic Olympic team to see if she can live the olympic dream one more time.  If she does not make the team, Dussault plans on heading to Norway for the European/World winter triathlon championship.  Otherwise, it’s to a World Cup in Canmore, Alberta followed by the big show that happens once every 4 years, taking place this year in Vancouver.

Trek Livestrong U23 Team Cycling Camp Report

As the nutrition sponsor of the Trek Livstrong U23 Cycling Team, Honey Stinger had the opportunity to join the team and director Axel Merckx and staff for a few days of training camp in Solvang, CA. Wet weather followed the first day of sun so the trainers were broken out and schedules shuffled.

The team is comprised of up and coming riders from around the globe including guys from Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand and the US. As a small company, Honey Stinger can relate to the team’s developmental mission. The riders are really excited about our products and Axel himself confessed that he loves our Dark Chocolate Coconut Almond Pro bars. Stay tuned for more team news throughout the year. Best of luck boys!

Below are a few pics from marketing guy Len Zanni’s time at the camp.

Dussault Playing Waiting Game on Olympic Spot after XC Ski Nationals

Rebecca Nationals sprint podium

Honey Stinger super-athlete (xterra athlete by summer, nordic skier extraordinaire among other things by winter) has just finished her bid for a U.S. Olympic Team spot at the U.S. Cross Country Nationals in Anchorage Alaska.  She now must await the points calculations and the decision of the USOC to see if she can make it to another Olympic Games, this year being in Vancouver.

On January 2, Dussault skated to a nationals podium in the 1.4 kmskate sprint event.  She took home the 2nd place spot to gain some valuable points towards her olympic bid.  Two days later in the 10 km skate event, Dussault finished a somewhat disappointing 6th place – but was still able to gain some valuable ground in the points race for the ultimate goal – the Olympics.  After the skate events came the classic cross country events.  In the 21 km event, a late mistake cost Rebecca a podium spot and she finished in 4th.  The final event of nations was the classic sprint in which competitors had to deal with a moose charging and chasing them in a harrowing freak event during the race.  Dussault was just edged out for 4th and took 5th place in a photo finish.

Rebecca now must sit back and endure the stress of the waiting game to see what the final points list says and determines her Olympic fate.  Good luck to you Rebecca and fingers crossed here at Honey Stinger.
